How to record Cash In and Cash Out (paying out from the drawer)
Whenever cash goes into or out of the drawer for anything other than a sale - extra change, paying a delivery, buying ice from the shop next door - record it. Otherwise the drawer will not match at closing.
Step 1: Open the menu
On the POS, open the menu (the three lines above the cart) and choose Cash In or Cash Out.
Cash In: adding money to the drawer
Enter the Amount and a Reason (for example Float for the morning shift), then press Record Cash In. Your name is recorded as the user.
Cash Out: taking money from the drawer
Enter the Amount and a Reason. If the money paid for something the business bought, tick Mark as Expense - ChecKmate creates the expense record in your Expenses module for you. Press Record Cash Out.
How it shows at closing
Cash In is added to, and Cash Out taken from, the Expected Cash in Drawer when the register is closed. Both appear under Cash Movements on the Z-Report.
Tips
- Always give a clear reason - it is what the manager sees later.
- Keep the receipt for anything paid out of the drawer.
- Taking the day's takings to the bank is not a Cash Out during the shift - count it in when you close the register.
