How to create and assign customer groups
Customer groups let you treat a set of customers differently - for example 10% off for frequent shoppers, a lower price for students, or a surcharge for a special account. Once a customer is in a group, the POS and invoices apply the group's pricing for you automatically.
Step 1: Open Customer Groups
From the Dashboard open Customers & Invoicing, then the Customer Groups tab. You will see your existing groups. Press Add Group.
Step 2: Name the group and choose how it is priced
- Type a Group Name, such as Frequent shoppers or Staff.
- Under Price Adjustment choose No Discount, Discount (charge less) or Surcharge (charge more).
If you choose a discount or surcharge, pick the Calculation Type - a Percentage or a fixed amount - and enter the value. For example, Percentage and 10 gives the group 10% off every sale.
Step 3: Choose the group's prices
Under Group Prices choose:
- Normal prices - the group pays your usual prices (plus any discount above).
- Own price per product - you set a special price for this group on each product. See How to set customer group prices on products.
- A rule for all products, with per-product prices - one rule for everything, with your own price on the products that need it.
Press Create Group to save.
Step 4: Put customers in the group
Open a customer (or press Add Customer for a new one). Under Customer Group, choose the group and save the customer.
Step 5: The POS applies it for you
At the POS, select the customer for the order. The customer list shows the group they are in.
As soon as the customer is on the order, the group discount appears under Applied Discounts & Charges - the cashier does not have to do anything.
Good to know
- Changing a group changes the price for everyone in it from the next sale; past sales are not touched.
- A customer can be in one group at a time.
- To stop a customer getting the group pricing, set their Customer Group back to No Group.
